Fallout: New Vegas - Review

Benny right before he 'kills' you

Introduction:
Fallout New Vegas is the 4th installment in the Fallout series, and some have a different opinion of Fallout New Vegas. Mine, however, is on the good side.

When Bethesda released fallout 3 back around fall in the year 2008, it was considered one of the greatest role-playing games of our generation. 2 years later, Bethesda surprises us with Fallout New Vegas.

Setting:
If you are not familiar with Fallout New Vegas, you wouldn't know about the massive open-world the game leaves us with, called the Mojave Wasteland. The Mojave Wasteland is the wide-spread area where you, the Courier, can explore. It's amazing what you can find  when you explore the Mojave Wasteland. For example, you can find areas such as a snipers nest, a camp in a cave, several camps, and stumble upon several different tribes. I personally believe that the Mojave Wasteland is slightly larger than Fallout 3's Wasteland.
Welcome to the Mojave Wasteland

Story:
You are a courier with the purpose of carrying a package to it's destination. The package contains a Platinum Chip thats details would be too big of a spoiler to say.

On your way to the destination, you are intercepted by Benny, a chairman of the Tops casino. You start of by waking up finding yourself surrounded by a load of Great Khans and Benny. Benny gives you a bit of a pep talk and then fills your head with lead (shot in the head). Afterwards, you wakeup to find Doctor Mitchell sitting in front of you, and explaining the situation. Afterwards, you are able to customize your character and choose beginning stats.

A while into the game, you start to make decisions that will alter the ending of the game. Some decisions, for example, are choosing which faction you wish to side with.

Gameplay:
Fallout New Vegas is a lot like Fallout 3, that's because Obsidian  used the same source engine that a lot of us witnessed in Fallout 3.

Fallout New Vegas has an outstanding gameplay. The graphics could be updated, but the action is still alive. Whether your blowing off heads, or making bodies explode, the gameplay is extraordinary. Not to mention the fact that Obsidian actually thought to add different currencies for each faction, and pulled it off. But they also added a wide range of several quest to complete.

Do's:
  • Great combat fighting
  • Okay story line
  • Large Open-World to explore
  • Several Quest
  • Wide selection of equipment
  • Obtainable Companions

Dont's:
  • Same old graphics
  • Same old engine
  • Feels like somethings missing
  • Navigation can be a pain
Punisher515 Rating:
8 1/2 Skulls
